Where the Weight Goes
MSR sheds weight through 20D ripstop nylon (vs. 68D on budget tents), shorter pole lengths, and an asymmetrical design that maximizes usable space with minimum material. The Easton aluminum poles are lighter than DAC poles of equivalent strength. Each design decision is deliberate — no unnecessary features.
Storm Performance
The low profile is what keeps a tent this light stable when the wind picks up — there is very little surface for it to push against. The 1500mm hydrostatic head floor and seam-sealed fly shed driving rain without leakage. For 3-season performance, it matches tents at 2x the weight.
