Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 Review (2026)

Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 uses ultra-thin SILTARP fabric (15D silicone-nylon) and Easton Syclone aluminum poles to achieve 2 lbs 3 oz packed. It's semi-freestanding (requires guy lines at either end) but pitches in 8 minutes and provides genuine 2-person sleeping space.

The short version

Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 is the lightest option for genuine 2-person tent use. We looked at how it compares to MSR Hubba Hubba NX and assessed the semi-freestanding setup requirements.

Who it's for

Buy this if: Ultralight backpackers who count every ounce and are comfortable with a semi-freestanding setup.

Skip this if: Beginners or anyone camping in rocky terrain where staking can't anchor the end poles.

In practice

Semi-Freestanding Reality

Semi-freestanding means the hub pole system creates the structure but end poles need staking for the tent to remain upright. In rocky terrain without suitable stake positions, this is problematic. For maintained campsite camping where stakes are always possible, it's a non-issue.

Fabric Weight Trade-off

15D silicone-nylon provides significant weight savings vs. 20-30D standard fabrics but tears more easily on rough granite or sharp sticks. Inspect your tent site before staking. The weight savings are real and meaningful; the fabric vulnerability is also real and requires attention.

The right tent when pack weight is the singular priority. Requires more attention to setup site selection than heavier alternatives.

Common questions

Can I use trekking poles to pitch it?
No — the Tiger Wall requires its own poles. Some Big Agnes designs accept trekking poles; this is not one of them.
What's the minimum temperature it's rated for?
3-season rating: comfortable use to approximately 20°F with appropriate sleeping bag and pad. Not for winter camping.
